We're gonna start with September and October since this is when our big hiatus started with the blog.
September:
We went on a trip down to Cappadocia with some new teachers. It is one of my favorite places in the world, but it is so much more fun to watch someone experience it for the first time. Our good friend Will moved to Turkey this year to be the other teacher in the English department. He came with us on this trip (you can see his pictures on his blog HERE) as well as our good friends David and Leah (you can see their amazing blog, and post a/b Cappadocia HERE). Some of our others friends that you might recognize also went on this trip.
It was a little exhausting because we left on a Friday after school, got there at midnight because of some travel difficulties, and then came back Sunday morning. Still, it's nice for everyone - especially new teachers - to get some time away and feel the excitement of being in a place as beautiful as Turkey. The return to school is insane. We come back and are jet-lagged for at least a week. Then you must unpack your life, take your stuff to school you brought from the states, "open" your classroom which must be packed and unpacked every year, clean your apartment and set it up, and then prepare for a work week in which your sleep schedule will severely hamper your brain function.
A few pictures of this set-up week are below, included our "staff picnic" on the terrace, and my classroom being set up. (There is a lot more in it now).
And now onto Cappadocia pictures!
The shops here are beautiful.
Outdoor seating is a must.
Spell-check isn't.
Our spot for dinner one night.
Of course you have to get up and see the balloons. I went with David and Leah.
D + L
We made a buddy.
I love the rich colors of the decorations.
The view from the top of a little coffee shop the day we left.
Back to our neighbohood, where wild dogs sleep on the sidewalk.
We have an amazing view this year from our new apartment and take advantage of it.
