100th Day of School

We are still trying to get this blog up and running on a consistence basis again, so here I am with another post from K-5(I know 2 in 2 weeks...can you believe it?). Last week we celebrated the 100th day of school. Like last year, I had my kids bring in 100 things to show and share with their classmates. But unlike last year, we also told them they could dress up like they were 100 years old (big thank you to my wonderful brother-in-law Joseph for the awesome idea). Kids in K-4 to 2nd grade came to school in their finest 100 year old attire. Some of my kids refused to dress up because they thought it was a horrible idea to look like a 100 year old, but most of my kids decided to participate (I did have one little girl who came to school in a bit of a strange outfit for an old lady...a plaid miniskirt and red sunglasses and blue mascara...I told her she looked like quite the old lady and she made no hesitation in her reply, "Mrs. Knox! I am not 100 years old. I will never be 100 years old. I am a teenager of course!"...I could do nothing but smile on the outside and laugh hysterically on the inside).
Anyway, we had a wonderful day at school. I made the mistake of telling the kids they could count their 100 things in front of the class. 15 kindergarteners counting to 100 nearly took the entire day, but thankfully we had a little time at the end for a food and dance party. We made a snack mix using 10 pieces of 10 different foods to make our "100th Day Snack Mix". The kids loved it, but I cannot say that anyone over the age of 6 would have eaten it. Marshmallows, gummy worms, cheerios, cookies, and cheese puffs make for a sticky and unappetizing treat. Good thing you can talk kindergarteners into almost anything:). Here are a few pictures from the big day:

K-5 on the 100th Day of School
The boys and their walking canes.
His mom wrote me a note telling me he had to wear the sunglasses so he could still be a "cool" granpa.
A few of my old folks at recess.
The kids had to do 10 jumping jacks when they heard us blow the whistle...we made it to 100.
K-5 during our food and dance party (notice the "I am 100 days smarter hats"...they looked so cute).
The dance part of the party...we do not have a projector yet, so the kids have to watch the computer screen to see the music videos.
 Counting 100 chocolate chips.
 The best make up.
100 year old kindergarteners still have to do sight word practice.
20 bracelets made up of 5 pieces of candy each...so cute and clever.
Ms. Lauber is telling the kids they have to take 100 steps across the basketball court before they can go inside.

We have another fun day coming up this week: Valentine's Day. We have our mailboxes made and taped on the backs of our chairs, and we have been decorating the classroom with all things pink and red and heart-shaped. I even have real valentines to give to the kids this year thanks to my mother-in-law Phyllis. She was kind enough to buy me some last year, so I could bring them with me at the beginning of the school year. I will put up some pictures some time after Thursday. Love and miss you all very much. Thank you so much for all the support and love you provide for us. We continue to thank God every day for all of you.

lots of love,
K and B
