Pics from the Byram - Izmir, Ephesus, and the Aegean Coast

So, we just had a "byram" which is a Turkish holiday. We had 3 days off for the Islamic sacrifice holiday, where families sacrifice goats, sheep, or cows and give the meat to the poor. It's pretty interesting, so if you have time check out that wikipedia link. We celebrated the Byram in style, going on a little trip to the Aegean coast to visit the beautiful city of Izmir, and then hostel hop over to Ephesus to see some amazing history.

More to come later, but here is a huge picture dump from our trip.

The crew.

Izmir

Famous old clock tower in downtown Izmir.

Some ancient ruins.

This bro was on the street signs. Me gusta.

David doesn't care about your "ocean"

Tiramisu and coffee by the ocean? Yip.

The unverified house of Mary, mother of Jesus.

Some pretty spectacular views.

Some pretty spectacular knives.

I mean, awesome.

The ancient city of Ephesus.

This lady popping into this picture made it infinitely better.

This is the auditorium from Acts 19.

Some kids asking David for money.

Breakfast at the hostel.

Typical.

The church of the Apostle John. He is apparently buried beneath it.

Stellar views.

Beach time on the Aegean coast, near Troy.

Good times. We'll be back with a vengeance soon. Quarter End + Grades = Chaos.

  2. Ha! I am using your pics in class today (Roman Art). Glad y'all enjoyed Kory and Devrim--they enjoyed y'all. I think you may have been in Izmir at the same time, even. Glad things are going well and you are surviving teaching--we'll have to compare notes when you get back!
